About me

Hello! My name is Manuel, and I am based in Granada, Spain. I work in integration, building the middleware that lets different systems talk to each other. My CV is available here.

My academic background is in physics, which I came to after spending a couple of years studying chemistry. Back at university, I was drawn to the intersection of physics and computation. Although I no longer spend my days thinking about electrons, I feel like the Sisyphean task of becoming a physicist does thicken your skin enough to work with computers. At least it’s not printers.

Outside of work, I try to keep my screen time low. Some things I like doing: reading (especially about Eastern Europe); either watching thirty films a month or none at all; cooking and baking; rewatching The Sopranos; making good coffee and taking that hobby too seriously; self-hosting (a never-ending source of both satisfaction and maintenance); both collecting physical records and listening to them; cultivating a cool autumn-winter wardrobe; lifting heavy things and putting them down again; contributing to Wikipedia (my most-read contribution so far has been, for reasons unbeknownst to me, the Spanish-language article on the Gombe Chimpanzee War).

About the blog

Here I mostly write about software and integration. Although the thought of a current or prospective employer reading it is rather daunting, I am trying to keep my own voice and avoid the synthetic tone that fills so much of the internet these days. The blog itself is a personal project built with Astro. Every change requires me to open my terminal and run git push, which triggers a build and deployment on Cloudflare. Using WordPress would be easier, but here I can kinda do whatever.
